Energy saving effect of movable partition window curtains using IoT devices
Meiho Enterprise and Waseda University Takaguchi Laboratory have been conducting joint industry-academia research for some time. On Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the 14th International Symposium on Asian Architectural Exchange, co-hosted by the Architectural Institute of Japan, a joint research paper was presented on the theme of "Energy-saving effects of movable partitions and window curtains using IoT devices."
Reduce air conditioning power consumption by up to 30.0% in summer and up to 28% in winter
In this study, we examined the difference between the amount of cooling and heating power consumption and the indoor thermal environment depending on the presence or absence of IoT window curtains and IoT partition curtains (August 5, 2023 ~ September 5, 2023 in summer, January 10, 2024 ~ February 13, 2024 in winter) using "EL FARO (EL FARO)".
It was found that the introduction of curtains reduced air conditioning electricity consumption in the summer by 15.8% with window curtains, up to 16.7% with partition curtains, and up to 30.0% when used in combination. It was also found that the introduction of curtains reduced heating electricity consumption in the winter by up to 6% with window curtains, 8.3% with partition curtains, and up to 28% when used in combination.
Based on the results of this research, we will utilize IoT devices in future development properties to improve the environmental performance and convenience of homes.
